sigh...I LOVE your work Jennifer. You are such an inspiration! Thank you for the cool tip!

Rebecca

Great pages. Could you please talk about how to do the sepia photos with the color highlighted hats?
Thanks

Donnelly

This is beautiful!! Thanks for sharing!

Jennifer Fehr

Hi Rebecca, first of all...Thankyou :) and Yes, I can tell you how to do the highlighting... but first... do you own Creative Memories Memory Manager 3.0? This is where I first edited my images! If you do, I can gladly give you some pointers on how to do this in that program! Talk soon!

Kay

Yes, please, I want to know how to do the color highlights.

Rebecca

Yes, I have Memory Manager... Look forward to hearing all about it.

Lauren

Jennifer, gorgeous work. Yes, please tell us how to do the highlighted hats and sepia pictures.

Steph

Your pages are always AWESOME! I have always wanted to know how you have color on black & white photos too.

Jennifer Fehr

O.k!! :) So... Here are the instructions for color highlighting photos in Memory Manager. You can do color highlighting quite easily in this program, once you get the hang of it you will be having tons of fun with your Digital Photos.

In MM 3.0 there is a NEW ribbon along the top called "Selection", (which will be visible when you double click on an individual picture to view it in the large view).
There are two tools found here. One called "Wand" and the other "Lasso". (BTW there is a fantastic webinar, which I watched on the Help Zone" that shows these very features, it is under MM 3.0... I highly recommend you watch it as it help you understand better how to use these tools)!

When using the Wand tool, it functions like the wand tool available in SB 3.0. You select portions of the photo in which you wish to keep in color (I sometimes find I need to adjust the color and intensity sensitivity bars, located in the tool box that opens when you select wand or lasso... I usually keep both set at about 59... but be aware that you may need to adjust as you select from different types of images!

(Note: please know that you will have to depress the shift key on your keyboard when selecting multiple areas of the image, by holding it down, you can do two eyes for example at one time... try it and you will see what I mean)!

Once you have selected the portions you wish to keep in color, now look along the ribbon and note that you have options... B&W, Sepia, light, color balance, color wash etc... In the case of these images I selected Sepia - once you do a box will open and you will have options - "edge blending" (which works very well when using the lasso tool, it will actually suck in the edges where you may have made mistakes and blend the areas around which you cut out to give a more finished professional look. again something you must try to fully understand :). "Blend Amount" and "inside/outside" selection - Here is where it allows you to create Sepia on the outside of the area you have selected. Click on it and you will see!

Now, you have color on the areas you have selected and Sepia on the outside!

When you click "Accept". You will still see the little "ants" moving around the areas you have selected... so just click on "Deselect" next to "lasso" and they will disappear! :)

"Lasso" works the same way however, instead of clicking on area (as you do with the wand tool) you will be drawing a fine line around the area or areas you wish to select and leave color... it is a forgiving tool (because you can use the edge blending option). Try both and you will find that you either prefer one over the other OR like me... you will use them both depending on the photo or reason!

Be sure to also try the film grain option under the "More" category, along with "soften" and "blur"!!! You can ALWAYS click "UNDO" these features allow you to undo ANYTHING and as many times as you like... so you never have to start over or you can always back up a few steps as well! The undo button will be you favorite!

Have Fun!

Michelle

Wow. If I had known how easy it was to do that, I would have been doing it long ago! I just used the technique on a bunch of pictures! Thank you, Jennifer, for great instructions!!

Jennifer Fehr

You are VERY Welcome Michelle! I am glad you found the instructions! Hopefully the others will come back and locate them as well! Have Fun!

Erin

So doing that color elimination trick is not possible in SBC+ 3.0 ???

Jennifer Fehr

HI Erin... The only way is to use the wand tool on the hat-clothing etc... (which isn't nearly as precise as the tool in MM 3.0). Then bring in the picture again in Sepia and copy and paste the hat/clothing etc... on top of the image. It Doesn't give as clean or professional of a look however! :(. If you don't have MM 3.0 yet... it is awesome and super cheap to buy! I love all that I can do with it! It is also the easiest tool for organizing your digital pics... because SB and MM talk back and forth together... it makes it SOOO easy to retrieve images, edit and replace pics in an ongoing project... it really is SUCH a necessity for me! Good Luck!
